OUR STORY
The co- owners, Amelia and Jan, were drawn to McGregor from their first visit to the village 30 years ago. As a newly wed couple they rented bicycles to explore the town and surrounding area.
In the following years they completed numerous hikes in the area – always feeling drawn to this special town and its people. In the early 2000’s both Amelia and Jan did a Leadership course in McGregor that was hosted in The Old School (then known as Die Kampterrein). When their eldest daughter taught at McGregor’s Waldorf School in 2021, they came to visit more often and through beautiful synchronicity it was the same property that crossed their path.
Amelia’s sister Carien, and her husband Leon, joined in the venture of making the accommodation units in the Old School building come to life. They share a keen interest in creating spaces where people can connect and be inspired.
The theme of ‘being a life-long learner’ is one that resonates deeply with all four of them and what they hope to create at the old school.
Amelia, your warm and welcoming host, is adventurous and creative and appreciates beauty and creativity in everyday life. She is a passionate gardener and the founder of a successful creative event in South Africa, www.kamersvol.com.
She believes that travelling opens new worlds and perspectives and have travelled to Europe and Africa various times. She also travelled to Vietnam in 2015 and did WWOOFing with her husband and children and found it to be a great way of travelling and sharing life with fellow travellers.
MCGREGOR WESTERN CAPE
The Old School is situated on the edge of the historic town of McGregor. Our neighbour is the Kranskop Nature Reserve and the area offers beautiful hiking and MTB trails where you can explore the rich vegetation of the Klein Karoo. COMMUNITY
The McGregor Wisdom School
The Old School shares the building and the spacious grounds with the McGregor Wisdom School. The Wisdom School came into being in 2021 as a collective that wishes to use the heritage school property as a focus for conferencing, collaboration and conversations. The spaces includes a 100 seater hall and two open classrooms , ideal for workshops and retreats.

Temenos
Temenos is a landmark set in a gorgeous garden in the centre of town. It is a place of stillness and simplicity where you can reconnect with your soul. This wonderful retreat centre is a unique place for practicing mindfulness and contemplation.
